Eleven

What do your children learn on a day-to-day basis in school? There are the obvious subjects such as math, science, English, and history but are the children actually learning the material or are they just learning enough of it to pass the test and move on. In today’s world people rely on getting in to college on one test, the SAT. For universities across the country we find that there is a minimum requirement to even get accepted in to the school. If the SAT is such a big deal for each student then why aren’t they being prepared for it in high school?

Math, science, history, and English are all subjects that each student has to take before they graduate. But it seems that our high school is only worried about helping the student pass instead of actually learning the material. Every student that wants to go to college has to take a college entrance exam. In the process of acceptance, the score of the test is very heavily weighted. The question that many people ask is, how is our school preparing high school juniors and seniors for the test? The answer is simple, we are not doing a single thing.

In the article it the people say that there need to be more regulation and a higher standard to recieve a medical marijuana green card. In 2004 the law was passed for montana to have medical marijuana. It is quite easy to get a green card and voters of montana think that there needs to be more regulation on it and I agree. In the small town that I come from there are 15 people that can legally grow medical marijuana. Someone can literally go in and say that something is wrong with them and they can get the green card.

In this article it talks about how the crow Indains made a settlement of 461 million dollars with the federal government over water. Officials say that this will help pull the the tribe out of poverty because it will open up new jobs. I feel that it is a good idea because many of the tribe members are jobless and cant afford to even keep their homes. The are solely depending on government funding. The communitly of the crow is falling through because of the poverty levels.

Standardized testing. Enough said right but is it a good thing or a bad thing. A mother of two sons pulled her children from the standardized test last week because she didnt want her kids to take them. She said that they are not a very good representation of academic accomplishment and I agree with her. There are many kids that can be very intelligent but when it comes to taking a test, they freeze and dont do very well. I am a person that can do excellent on homework and do very poor on a test because i get anxiety.

milk

Milk, its the creamy delicious drink that can be consumed with about everything possible. Everyone on this earth has had at least one drink of milk. Yes I know not everyone likes it but it is something that most people have tried. Milk is so popular that there are specific cows that are for milking and milking only. There is really nothing that milk can be compared to because honestly a bowl of special K in the morning would not taste very good if it was mixed with water rather than milk. When the cream taste hits your tongue and drains to the back of your mouth and runs down the back of you throat just makes you want more.

Milk is used in appetizers, side dishes, main dishes, and deserts. You can have it cold or warm and each time you have it is a shock of goodness in your mouth. If you think about it, milk is used on a day-to-day basis, even if it is in the littlest ways.

When I look at a gallon of milk I think of a snowstorm that has been bottled up and put in to a see through jug. Milk could be considered as the wonder liquid because you get nutrients, vitamins, hydration and a great taste all in one. It can be used in many different ways but it can be sold different too.

It can come from many different things such as a cow, goat, soy and more. There are many different ways that milk can be drank because there is skim, 1%, 2% and whole mild but there is also soy milk for the people that are lactose and tolerant. Not only it comes in different fat percentages but also it comes in all different sizes such as a gallon, half-gallon, pint, and cup. Price has a lot to do with milk because you have to have healthy cows before you can have your milk. A few years ago there was a mad cow disease scare and the price of milk sky rocketed. I remember at the store that was in my town that milk cost over eight dollars for a gallon of milk. Now it is around $3.50 because there is nothing wrong with the cows.

With all the different kinds of milk, I think to myself “do they taste the same?” I went out and tried all the different kinds of milk and I found that I like 2% milk the best but a lot of people prefer skim milk. In my opinion, I feel like I am drinking out of a water bottle and the white color is there because someone magically invented white food coloring. But when I drink whole milk I feel like I am drinking a milk shake because it is so thick and creamy. Two percent is where it is at because when you take a drink it goes down like water but there is still that creamy taste that is expected when drinking milk.

Cats or Dogs

There is not way that anything could be as awesome as a dog. A mans best friends does everything in its power to please you and make you happy. The animal will love you until the day you die even if you stole a cookie from the bakery on the corner. The loyalty that a dog exhibits is unbelievable because no matter the situation the dog will be there without any hesitation. At night when you feel lonely the dog will snuggle next to you with its soft warm fur coat. The presence that a dog has makes me feel protected and safe even if there is no one around to help me. A dog is different from a person because it is not like they are going to hear a secret about you and go tell someone. Even if a dog could talk I feel that it would never tell a soul.

On the other hand, the cat is a best from to a lot of people. If your and old lady and lives alone the ext question is “Do you have a cat?” Cats are very special in their own way because it is as if they have their own swag to everything that they do. But as the same as a dog, the cat is very loyal and loving. It always knows when you’re having a bad day. It is the first thing in your lap trying to make you feel better. They make you feel as if the your life will be ok and that no matter what at the end of the day there is always love waiting at home for you.

Journal three

In the excerpt “Shitty First Drafts” it talks about getting your feelings and ideas out on paper and expressing how you see and feel about different situations. Lamott mentions a process that works exceptionally well. When someone experiences a situation whether they like it or not it creates a memory but when they create it they don’t run it through there mind in and organized way, they think of the highlights and branch off of it. That is how it is when you’re writing the first draft. One just wants to get there ideas out on paper and make sure you have all the high and low points of what one is writing about. Lamott calls it a “down draft”, which means everything that your thinking about goes on paper whether it makes sense to everybody or just you.

The second draft is about taking your first draft and revising to make sense in a way that is understandable and that it flows and doesn’t just bounce from idea to idea. This is called the “up draft”. I think of it, as you have to up your game by making it sound and flow like a song.

The third draft is the masterpiece or so you hope so. It is a draft that is proof read time after time checking to see if things have to be cut or moved around. Lamott calls it the dental draft. We all know what happens at the dentist, it may be good how it is but there is always room for improvement.

I feel that Lamott recommends this because if you try to write perfect the first time you might leave out ideas that mean the most to you because you don’t know how they would fit right then and there. By getting ideas out on paper lets your mind wander explore things that is there but you just don’t have time to recognize that the idea is there.

I personally use a method that is similar but I usually need more than just three drafts. I like to write until things can’t be moved, cut or changed, even though there is still probably room for change. When I think of things I want to write about my brain bounce from one thing to another but if I write it all done I know that it is hard to forget about all the things that happened to me in the situation I was in.
